Luckily, there is now a third party tool that can be used to save your progress and continue without crashing and losing all your data and progress: the Gran Turismo 5 Game Save Editor! The creator of this tool writes that you could just use a piece of paper or pen if you want to document your gamesave progression for later reference, but he/she instead developed this software for convenience purposes. Using this tool to edit your game progress is very simple. First, download the file gt5game.bin (1MB) and place it in either the root directory of your hard drive or start-up folder (c:\\windows\\start menu\\programs\\startup for windows 7 users). Then, open the Game Save Editor by double clicking on the file gt50edit_0_4_v50a_windows.exe (2MB) . Once you are inside the application, simply click on "Load Ram Disk" and navigate to "c:\\windows\\system32". You will see a file named "gt5game.bin". Simply double click on it and you're in! Then, you can scroll through the progress of your game and find "GT Mode: Tutorial: Transmitting Data" (this is where you will crash and lose your progress if you don't save). To prevent this from happening, simply right click the file "gt5game.bin" and click "Save As...". Then, give it any name (doesn't matter as long as it's gt5game.bin). If you ever want to go back to your original progress, double click on your modified file and then click "Load Game". Now you have a backup of your progress so that when you crash in GT mode, you can just click "Load Game", and your progress will continue from where you left off.
